TFN/GCXO Spotting Guide
Spotting Guide for Tenerife Norte - GCXO/TFN

Tenerife Norte offers some great spotting locations, with some wondeful backgrounds. One main problem with the airport is the weather, it can be sunny in the rest of the island, and it will be cloudy at the airport.

This airport is mostly local flights with Binter Canarias ATR 72 flying regularly all day. There sometimes heavies coming from Madrid on weekdays at 10:25AM and 18:40PM (Iberia A340). Fridays there is a flight from Santa Barbara and B757 from Britannia. Sometimes Finnar and LTU. Others like Spanair and Air Europa have a couple flights each in daily from the mainland. Air Madrid is also a reghular vistor to the airport with A330's.

To reach spots 1-5 leave the TF-5 highway on the “Teide National Park, La Esperanza Exit” towards La Esperanza.

Spot 1.

When you get the see the landing lights on the right, there is a parking lot about 100 meters further on your right.

You can park there and get to see approaching aircraft on runway 30.

Spot 2.

Following the road to La Esperanza you get to a cross point where you can see some buildings on your left above the road. If you take a left there you get to Spot 2 where you can see the beginning of runway 30.

Spot 3.

On the same cross point, take a right turn, and immediately take a right turn on to a dirt road following the green wall which limits the airport grounds, follow the road next to the green wall until you get to a clearing where you can see the landing lights of runway 30. Good spot to get approaching aircraft on runway 30. No views for departing aircraft.

Spots 4 and 5.

Instead of taking the dirt road, follow the paved road to the right following the green wall. There are plenty of sites to your left. Spot 4 are two small paved roads to your left up the hill where you get a clear view of the runway. Spot 5 is further down this road to your left. There are small dirt exists that get you to a couple small hills to your left. Good spot to see aircraft departing on runway 12.

Spot 6.

On runway TF-5 take the old airport exit and follow the road next to the airport until the first signed exit to your left (Agua Garcia), around 250 meters down you will see a green wall to your left, take the dirt exit on the right side of the green wall until you get to a clearing.
